Liberal education claims can’t be trusted

TORONTO — NDP Education critic Marit Stiles said Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca can’t be trusted on education — because his track record of deep cuts and bad choices can’t be ignored.

“When Steven Del Duca was a member of the last Liberal government’s cabinet, their goal was to save money on the backs of our kids,” said Stiles. “They closed more than 600 schools. They hiked class sizes. And they ignored necessary school repairs in order to save money, piling up an unbelievable $15.8 billion in broken boilers, leaky roofs, lead-contaminated drinking fountains and windows that no longer open.

“Steven Del Duca and the Liberals had 15 years to invest in our children, their schools and their future. They chose not to.”

On Thursday, Del Duca made some political promises for education. Stiles said they’re gruel-thin — including fewer than one new staffer for each school, for example.

“Doug Ford has brought our education system to its knees. It’s clear that Del Duca won’t fix that, or finally give our kids what they deserve.”
