Standing up for Scarborough Southwest

Doly Begum is working to strengthen Ontario by fighting for better transit, investing in public services, and making the government more equitable and inclusive.

Born in Bangladesh and raised in Scarborough, Doly became the first Bangladeshi-Canadian elected to public office in Canada when she won her seat in 2018. She is the Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, and serves as Shadow Minister for Public Transit, with responsibility for Equity and Anti-Racism.

Before being elected, Doly led the province-wide Keep Hydro Public campaign and served as co-chair of the Scarborough Health Coalition. She has been a consistent voice for more hospital beds, better home care, and investments in education — especially in communities that have long been underserved.

With a background in public policy and a deep commitment to Scarborough families, Doly continues to fight for fairness, accessibility, and real investments in the future of Ontario.
